A physician-supervised exercise physiology clinic in St. Paul serving children ages 3 and up.
Minneapolis and Burnsville: Pediatric Weight Management Program at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital
Addresses the medical, nutritional and emotional issues related to a child's weight and encourages him or her to make small, positive steps, such as increasing activity and eating healthy foods.
Duluth: Pediatric Weight Management Program at St. Mary's
Designed for children ages 6-18 who are in the 95th percentile for BMI, this is a year-long program that involves assessment from a physician, psychologist, dietitian and exercise physiologist to create lifestyle changes for long-term weight loss and maintenance.
Central Minnesota: BLEND - Better Living, Exercise and Nutrition Daily
A grassroots initiative aiming to reduce BMI among adolescents living in Central Minnesota by 10 percent by 2016
Rochester: Mayo Clinic
Mayo Clinic Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine is participating in a Small Steps Project to reduce childhood obesity through well child care. Registered nurses provide motivational interviewing utilizing the 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go Curriculum for children 4-18 years of age and their parents. The intervention includes multiple motivational interviewing visits either at clinic or by phone with nursing staff over 6 months. Children with BMI 85th-95th percentile for age qualify for the intervention. The effect of the intervention will be compared in a study group compared to a placebo group receiving standard care.
