Dr. BroughtonDaniel Broughton, MD, FAAP selected as the 2014 MNAAP Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Dr. Broughton joined the Mayo Clinic in 1978, beginning a 36-year journey as a tireless advocate for children, especially abused and neglected children. In addition to being a member/leader of the Governor’s Task Force on Missing Children and the Action for Children Committee under Governors Perpich and Carlson, he was instrumental in starting and becoming medical director of the Mayo Clinic Children’s Advocacy Center and the Mayo Clinic Family Advocacy Program (MCFAP).

He is a past president of MNAAP and has been a member of the board of directors of the Rochester Boys and Girls Club for over 14 years. However, the majority of Dr. Broughton’s advocacy involvement has been working with national and international organizations advocating on behalf of missing and abused children. He was a founding member and eventual chair of the board of directors for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and vice chair and board member for the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. He is still an active board member in both organizations today and has traveled the world speaking on behalf of these organizations and the work they do.
